Kayvon dances to Jully Black’s “Seven Day Fool” at Canadian Music Week opening party

Last nights opening night party for Canadian Music Week was off the hook, free drinks, free food, and the chance to watch Jully Black perform her hit record Seven Day Fool. I was in the place hanging with the always funny Kayvon of KayvonTV fame (of which I am co-producer), and I managed to throw together this video which i feels captures the raw essence of the night. Big up to Jully Black!! Jully Black (pronounced /ˈdʒuːliː/ or "Julie") (born Jully Ann Inderia Gordon on November 8, 1977 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian R&B singer of Jamaican heritage, and was brought up in the notorious Jane and Finch area of Toronto. She has collaborated and written for many notable artists, including Nas, Missy Elliott, Saukrates, Choclair, Kardinal Offishall, Destiny's Child, and Sean Paul. Black had a Top 40 hit on the Canadian charts in 1998 with "Rally'n". She has had subsequent hits with singles such as "You Changed" and "Between Me and U". Her solo debut album was originally scheduled for release in 2003 on MCA Records, under the title I Traveled.[1] However, it was heavily delayed, MCA eventually folded in 2003, and the album was shelved. In summer of 2005, a newly recorded album, This is Me, was released by Universal Music Canada. The album included the hit singles "Sweat of Your Brow" and "5x Love". According to a piracy report by IFPI, the international music industry body, there were "2.8 million illegal file swapping requests for her music in the first two weeks of her album's release in 2005". At the same time, Black reportedly "struggled to sell 15,000 copies of the same album". In summer of 2007, a new single entitled "Seven Day Fool" was released, eventually becoming Black's first Top 10 hit in Canada. Her second album Revival was released on October 16, 2007.

Hey Folks! You know how I just love to dance. And when Ms. Jully Black performed “Seven Day Fool” (in honour of me?) at the opening night party for Canadian Music Week – I just couldn’t keep my feet still. I can highly recommend Ms. Blacks latest CD, Revival. A most fantastic collection of tunes by this Canadian songstress.
